Power BI consultancy

Power BI consultancy.
Build reporting people can trust.

If reporting still depends on spreadsheet stitching, manual checks or dashboards nobody trusts, we can help organise the data and build a clearer reporting layer in Power BI.

Tell us what you report on today, where the data comes from and what people do not trust. You do not need a finished specification.

When to bring us in

Where is reporting slowing the business down?

The dashboard may not be the real problem. Manual preparation, conflicting definitions or poor source data can all make reporting harder than it should be.

01 / MONTH-END DRAG

Reporting takes too long
every month.

People export data, copy it into spreadsheets and repeat the same checks before anyone can use the numbers. The recurring effort is a sign the reporting path needs attention.

02 / NUMBERS DO NOT AGREE

Different reports give
different answers.

The issue may be definitions, duplicated logic, source quality or how data is joined. A new dashboard will not fix those disagreements by itself.

03 / DASHBOARD NOT TRUSTED

The dashboard exists,
but people work around it.

If teams keep their own spreadsheets, the problem is usually confidence, usability or missing operational context rather than the chart design alone.

How we start

Agree what the reporting needs to do
before we build the dashboard.

Start with the decision, audience and current reporting process. We review the enquiry, ask for any missing context and agree the first piece of paid work where there is a fit.

  1. 01

    Agree the reporting question

Define who needs the information, the decisions it should support and which existing reports are considered authoritative.

  2. 02

    Inspect the sources and model

Review available data, definitions, refresh constraints and relationships before building the reporting layer.

  3. 03

    Build, test and hand over

Create the model and reports, test them with real users, document the measures and agree ownership of refreshes and future changes.

An initial conversation is not a full technical audit. Repository access, detailed investigation and implementation are scoped separately.

Published project examples

Related engineering work
behind clearer reporting.

These are public Galvia projects involving connected data, business software and handover. They are related engineering proof, not claims that the same technical route fits every Power BI project.

McFarland Consulting / connected data

Different sources.
One usable operational view.

Galvia connected monitoring devices, normalised their readings and delivered the information through a shared cloud platform. The published case describes reduced site visits and faster access to monitoring information.

ASM / software modernisation

Business software moved
to a clearer delivery model.

Galvia helped move an established freight-customs product from desktop software to a browser-based, cloud-ready application and enabled the client team to continue development.

The people behind the work

Talk to the people

Galvia is a Belfast software development team. We work alongside your people, explain the trade-offs and document what we build so the result can be understood and maintained.

What the work can involve

Power BI consulting services
around the reporting problem.

A useful Power BI project is more than a set of charts. The source data, measure definitions, refresh process, access and handover all affect whether people can rely on the result.

Dashboard and report development

Build role-appropriate Power BI reports around defined decisions and operational questions. We start with the information people actually need rather than reproducing every existing spreadsheet.

Data modelling and measure definitions

Define how the data should relate and how important measures are calculated. Clear definitions matter when different teams currently report the same thing in different ways.

Data-source integration and refresh

Connect the reporting layer to the available sources and agree how data should refresh. If the underlying sources need more work, our data analytics consulting page covers that broader problem.

Existing Power BI review and improvement

Review an existing Power BI setup where performance, trust or maintainability is the issue. We identify what can be retained and where the model, measures or delivery process need attention.

Power BI is not a substitute for understandable data. If the main problem is fragmented ownership, poor quality or inconsistent source data, it may make sense to address that first rather than build another reporting layer.

Before you enquire

The practical
questions.

What can Power BI connect to?

Power BI can work with many databases, files, cloud services and APIs, but the best route depends on access, data volume, refresh needs and how the source system exposes the information. We check those constraints before recommending a design.

Can you improve an existing Power BI setup rather than rebuild it?

Yes. Where the existing reports and model contain useful work, we can review what is causing problems and decide what should be retained, simplified or rebuilt. The first step is understanding why the current setup is not working for users.

What if our source data is messy or inconsistent?

That is common. We can identify quality issues, conflicting definitions and source ownership before deciding how much cleanup is needed. If the data problem is broader than reporting, see our data analytics consulting services.

Do we need Power BI licences before starting?

Not necessarily for an initial discussion or scoping exercise. Licensing depends on how reports will be created, shared and governed. We avoid making a licensing recommendation until the intended users and deployment route are clear.

Can you automate data refresh and reporting?

Where the source systems and infrastructure support it, yes. Refresh frequency, credentials, gateways, error handling and ownership need to be designed around the real operating environment.

How much does a Power BI project cost?

Cost depends on the number and quality of data sources, the reporting model, measures, users, security needs and the amount of investigation required. We agree scope, engineering capacity and fees before paid work starts.

Tell us what you are trying to report

What needs to become
clearer or easier to trust?

Tell us what you report on today, where the data lives and what is making the process unreliable or slow. We review each enquiry before arranging a call.

  • A person reviews the project before a call is arranged.
  • No passwords, API keys, customer records or other secrets in the form.
  • No work or fees are agreed by submitting this form.
